ABOUT FINIKOUNDA
Finikounda is a very charming fishing village which is blessed with magnificent long, wide, sandy beaches, from the west, 2km long, 800m long town beach, then the 600m long east beach. With stunning unspoilt scenery, warm Greek hospitality and a very slow pace of life, Finikounda is the place to go for a sociable and very relaxing holiday. Finikounda is located in Messinia on the Peloponnese mainland in the southwest of Greece. The Messinia region is full of cultural history, important archaeological sites and is rich in colourful, traditional towns and villages. Finikounda has an abundance of outstanding natural beauty and some of the best beaches in the whole of Greece.
From Finikounda as your base you can explore the Messinia region. In Pylos, you can visit the small Archeological Museum. The museum collection includes Mycenaean pottery from area sites, some lovely Hellenistic glass vases and two small bronze figures of youths. Also you can visit the The Palace of Nestor, at Homeric Pylos (today's name Ano Englianos), and the Archeological Museum at Chora. In Neokastro you can visit the fort above Pylos Various boat captains, usually to be found at the Finikounda harbor, offer boat in the beautifull islands Schiza, Aghia Marina, and Sapientza. And finaly you can visit the fortress at Methone which is 20 km away from the Finikounda village.
